The Pasadena Musical Theatre Program
Presents Our 18th Summer Season

PLACEBO: A New Musical

Senior Company: 7th-12th Grades
June 26 – August 5, 2012
Weekday Rehearsals, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Performances: Pasadena Playhouse's Carrie Hamilton Theatre
PMTP'S LATEST ORIGINAL PRODUCTION
Book by Joshua Borths and Danny Abosch
Music and Lyrics by Danny Abosch
Directed by Ryan Scott Oliver

Robert Wilson and his brother Blake persuade their town to purchase what they claim to be a miracle pill, invented by their late father, scientist Dr. Wilson. The pill is actually a placebo made of nothing but sugar, but the town, believing it to be real, becomes carried away with the 'miracles' that the pill is reportedly responsible for. Robert and Blake’s plan is wildly successful...but at what cost? PLACEBO is a story about dreams, and questions the idea of reality in a world where what isn’t 'real' often appears more promising.

HONK! JR.

Junior Company: 4th-6th Grades
June 25 – July 27, 2012
Weekday Rehearsals, 9:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Performances: Pasadena Playhouse's Carrie Hamilton Theatre
Book by Anthony Drewe
Music by George Stiles
Lyrics by Anthony Drewe
Directed by Emily Clark

HONK! became a stand-out by winning the 2000 Olivier Award (the British equivalent of the Tony® Award) for Best New Musical. HONK! JR. is a contemporary retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling with a JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT-esque score that everyone will enjoy.

THE BEST OF BROADWAY: A Musical Revue

Workshop Company
June 18 – July 5, 2012
Weekday Rehearsals, 1:30 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Hearken back to PMTP's roots! The Workshop is light on sets and costumes but chock-full of singing and dancing! And, it's up first!!

WHICH COMPANY IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

  • All 4th—6th Graders should enroll in the Junior Company.
  • For 7th—12th Graders, the Workshop Company (June 18—July 5) is perfect for musical theatre beginners with limited or no stage experience, students who can’t make the six-week commitment of the PMTP Senior Company, or students who are looking to have fun with drama.
  • Also for 7th—12th Graders, the Senior Company (June 26—August 5) is right for students with some experience in music, theatre, and/or dance; students ready to engage in a serious, high-intensity six-week program designed to encourage skill-building and professionalism. Auditions are required for students who have not participated in at least two previous Senior Company productions. Read this document for more information about the audition requirement.
  • All students 4th—12th grades interested in focusing their skills in specific areas (theatre, voice, dance, writing, and more) should enroll in a class in our Conservatory (June 18—22).
